Morocco-Saudi Arabia: Agreement on accelerated patent examination signed in Casablanca

Casablanca - The Office Marocain de la Propriété Industrielle et Commerciale (OMPIC) and the Saudi Arabian Intellectual Property Authority (SAIP) signed an agreement on Tuesday in Casablanca on the "Patent Prosecution Highway" (PPH) pilot program, aimed at speeding up the processing of patent applications.

The agreement was initialed at a meeting of the joint commission, chaired by Abdelaziz Babqiqi, Director General of OMPIC, and Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Swailem, Executive Chairman of SAIP.Abdelaziz Babqiqi, Director General of OMPIC and Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Swailem, Executive Chairman of SAIP.

The initiative is based on the sharing of examination results, with a view to reducing processing times for patent applications, while improving the quality of patents granted, according to an OMPIC press release.

The meeting also focused on cooperation projects between the two offices, with a particular emphasis on exchanging information on the latest developments in industrial property in the two countries, and on the development of new technologies.the two countries, and the sharing of experiences and best practices on the management and examination of applications for industrial property protection, continues the same source.

The meeting was also devoted to the exchange of experience on systems for the protection and enhancement of geographical indications, as well as activities to promote and raise awareness among companies of the importance of protecting and enhancing the value of their products and services. the importance of protecting and enforcing industrial property rights, as well as the training programs developed by the two offices to strengthen the capacities of the players concerned.

On this occasion, the two offices agreed to develop their cooperation activities in new fields such as artificial intelligence and information and communication technologies.
