An educational revolution is taking shape at the Lycée technique agricole (Lta) K-Dk in Parakou, with the introduction of cutting-edge training in maggot production. Led by renowned experts in the production of black soldier flies, this initiative opens up new prospects in the agricultural and livestock sectors.

According to the trainers, black soldier fly larvae offer an innovative solution to food challenges in poultry, fish and pig farming, thanks to their high protein content. "High school students now know about the technology for mass production of black soldier fly larvae, a different species of fly to the ordinary one. It's a great opportunity for the students. Black soldier fly larvae are an alternative source of protein used to alleviate the food shortage frequently observed in a number of crops. What's more, they represent an ecological solution for recycling organic waste", explains Cephas Hounsou, Entomoculture Expert Trainer. According to Hounsou, the learners were equipped with practical skills at the K-Dk agro-pastoral farm during a week of training, from planning to execution of activities, including the use of entomoculture. from planning to execution of activities, including colony maintenance in the insectarium, lavarium management, the supply circuit and much more. They discovered an innovative, promising and environmentally-friendly entrepreneurial opportunity.

For the students, this training marks the start of an exciting entrepreneurial adventure. Some of them, already in their second year, are planning to set up their own maggot production business, and they encourage all young people looking for practical, job-oriented training to join the school for an agricultural educational revolution. "I feel lucky to have chosen Lta K-Dk. The training is very practical. I've learned how to make egg-layers, collect eggs, fatten larvae and much more. I'm going to produce insect larvae at home and sell them on the market," said Malikath Amadou, a second-year learner. "I'm very happy. I've been trained in the production of maggots, insects of nutritional, ecological and economic interest. This will enable me to earn a living and enter the job market. I'm looking forward to applying what I've learned in my entrepreneurial career. And for young people who want to take their destiny into their own hands, I'd like to invite them to enroll at Lta K-Dk which, since the start of our training, has already brought in several experts for practical training courses that our fellow students say don't exist in other high schools. I'd like to thank the school's promoter for his work," said Imorou Nazifou Traoré, a student at Lta K-Dk.

For his part, Chabi Takou Bergui Allagbé, production manager at Lta K-Dk, underlined the promoter's commitment to training a new generation of competent leaders resolutely focused on entrepreneurship. He expressed his gratitude to the promoter, Deputy Charles Toko, for his determination to offer high-quality practical training to high school students. This initiative positions the Lycée as a leader in educational innovation, shaping the future of agriculture in Benin and the sub-region.
