The Carentan/Waldfischbach-Burgalben twinning committee welcomes a delegation from the twin town to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the friendship between the two towns.
On Thursday May 14, 2026, at the Salle des Fêtes in Carentan-les-Marais (Manche), Claudie Lemaître, president and the whole team of the Comité de Twinning, welcomed around 60 friends from Waldfischbach as part of the twinning between the two towns. This is an exceptional meeting, as it will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the two committees, with numerous events to which the local population is invited.
The importance of passing on to younger generations".
As a prelude to the welcome, the Germans stopped off at the La Cambe cemetery for a ceremony attended by local veterans. Then, after gathering in the Saint-Hilaire-Petitville parking lot, a procession of cars from the 1960s-1970s preceded the bus. On arrival, the young firefighters and a number of gymnasts from the Jeanne-d'Arc club formed a guard of honour. For the occasion, many of the committee members had dressed up in colorful 1960s-1970s outfits.
During the welcome, the presidents made their welcoming remarks, as did Rosine Lesieur, Carentan's brand-new mayor, who spoke in French and German. They all stressed the importance of the friendship between the two peoples, and the need to pass on these ties to the younger generations.
Activities planned
Carentan residents are invited to take part in German Day on Saturday, May 16: starting at 10 a.m., a 5 km hike will take place at Haut-Dick, followed by a Palatinate meal prepared by the Germans. There will be plenty of entertainment throughout the afternoon. On Friday and Sunday, committee members will have the day off, and will meet up for festive meals in the evening. The Germans will be leaving on Monday morning to prepare for the arrival of their Carentan friends in 2027.
