France/Twinning between Villeneuve-lez-Avignon and Rheinbach, an affair of the heart nourished by exchanges
The Franco-German friendship was once again illustrated in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon with the visit of a delegation from Rheinbach, a German town twinned with Villeneuve-lez-Avignon since 1969.
The visit of a delegation of over fifty German participants from Rheinbach, a town twinned with Nîmes since 1969, testified to the dynamism and loyalty of the exchanges between the two cities.
The visit, which was all about discovery and sharing, began with a cultural immersion experience, with a guided tour of the city of Nîmes in German, followed by a guided tour of the Musée Pierre-de-Luxembourg in Villeneuve, led by Christian Martin. These special moments enabled visitors to gain a better understanding of the local heritage, while at the same time strengthening human ties.
The highlight of the event was the official welcome speeches at the town hall. Mayor Pascale Bories emphasized the significance of the twinning: "I'd like to stress the importance of our links, both between our countries and between our towns. Ties that can only be forged if we get to know each other better, and these exchanges are the finest example of this."
More than just a partnership
The program continued in Uzès, before ending in Vaison-la-Romaine, giving visitors a broader overview of the region's riches, before returning to Rheinbach.
A particularly moving moment of the trip: during a shared meal, Honorary Chairman Christian Martin received a gift from the town of Rheinbach. A symbolic gesture in recognition of a long-standing commitment, since he accompanied a group of young people from Villeneuve across the Rhine in 1976.
More than just a simple partnership, the twinning between Villeneuve-lez-Avignon and Rheinbach has become, over the decades, a true story of friendship, nurtured by the exchanges, loyalty and commitment of those who keep it alive.
