Belgium/For a week, the Ex Aequo association is offering free, rapid screening tests for HIV and other STIs.

From May 20 to 26, 2024, the Ex Aequo association is offering free, anonymous HIV, syphilis and/or hepatitis C screening tests with immediate results at its Brussels office. This initiative is part of European Screening Week.

These tests are known as "rapid" and can be used to check for infection in all sexual relationships more than three months old. A rapid test can also detect a more recent infection, but the result is not guaranteed, explains the association, which is dedicated to promoting the health of MSM (men who have sex with men). These rapid tests give an immediate result. This is not the case for a blood test. Performed by the medical profession, it can take a few days.

"In a caring, community setting, testing can be a pleasant experience, where practices can be discussed freely and without judgment," says Exaequo in a press release.
