As part of the Programme d'appui aux OSC de biodiversité actives dans les pays en développement (ProBioDev), the IUCN French Committee is launching a call for projects to support civil society partnerships in developing countries. This first call is aimed at funding and implementing field projects focusing on biodiversity conservation and/or Nature-based Solutions (NBS) that specifically address the challenges of adapting to and mitigating climate change.

Since February1, 2024, the IUCN French Committee has been implementing the Programme d'appui aux OSC de biodiversité actives dans les pays en développement (ProBioDev). Over a 3-year period, ProBioDev aims toimprove the state of biodiversity in developing countries through civil society action and the strengthening of CSO capacities and partnerships.

Supported by a coalition of public and private partners, including the Agence française de développement, the Office Français de la Biodiversité, the Fondation Audemars Piguet pour les Arbres, the Fondation de France, the Fondation Manthano, the Fondation Egis and the Maisons du Monde Foundation, the program's ambition is also to support the development of new projects in the field of biodiversity. The program's ambition is also to support alliance strategies and the development of equitable and supportive partnerships to meet the challenges of biodiversity in developing countries.

To this end, a system for financing mesoprojects has been set up, and a first call for projects is open from April 9 to May 26, 2024. This call for projects will make it possible to finance around ten field projects for grants of between €100,000 and €250,000 over a maximum period of 24 months. The co-financing provided via these grants will represent a maximum of 90% of the total project budget.

Projects must be carried out in a country eligible for official development assistance according to the OECD DAC list (with priority given to the African continent) and supported by civil society partnerships. These partnerships must include a French civil society organization (CSO) and a local CSO registered in a developing country. The main objective of the project must be the preservation of biodiversity and/or Nature-based Solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation, in line with the objectives of the Kunming-Montreal World Conservation Framework.

Full details of the call for projects can be found in the competition rules available on this page.
