In Togo, the canton of Tchifama in the commune of Blitta 3 (260 Km north of Lomé) will be home to a new modern market, as part of the Programme de soutien aux microprojets d'infrastructures communautaires (PSMICO) piloted by the Agence nationale d'appui au développement à la base (ANADEB). Work on the project began on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

The project is valued at 168 million FCFA and will be financed by the Vulnerable Populations Support Program (PAPV). When completed, the infrastructure will comprise ten (10) cantonal-type sheds, three (3) 100-ton storage warehouses, one (1) modern 6-stall latrine block, one (1) block of five (5) stores and one (1) photovoltaic borehole with a water supply system.

Once completed, the new retail infrastructure should contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality. In fact, it will increase the storage capacity and security of merchandise, and provide a better business environment for local merchants.

More than a dozen of the country's communes are already home to modern markets as part of this project. Construction is also underway in several other municipalities across the country.
