The Association des épouses de gendarmes de Côte d'Ivoire (AEGCI) initiated a blood donation operation which enabled the Centre régional de transfusion sanguine (CRTS) to collect 118 bags of the precious liquid, on Saturday March 23, 2024, at the headquarters of the 2nd gendarmerie region in Daloa.

This social action by gendarmes' wives follows on from the celebration of International Women's Rights Day, and aims to help save human lives, stressed the association's president, Chantal Abé.

"We want to mark this day with a social act by donating our blood to save lives", said Ms. Abé, explaining the decision to donate blood from her family.cision to donate blood was prompted by the high number of traffic accident victims and the risks incurred by their husbands in the field.

A third blood donation operation is planned for Bouaké, announced the association's honorary president, Mme Apalo Touré, without specifying a date. AEGCI's first blood donation operation dates back to 2021.

The government and the Centre national de transfusion sanguine (CNTS) are constantly urging people to donate blood to meet the country's needs, estimated at 250,000 to 300,000 bags a year.
