The coordinator of the Solid Waste Management Coordination Unit (UCG), Mass Thiam, has announced the deployment of a team of 200 people and cleaning equipment to deal with the large amount of waste expected during the Grand Magal of Touba, a religious event usually attended by hundreds of thousands of worshippers.

As far as Touba is concerned, we have mobilized a team of 200 people who will be hired for a period of one month'', he said.He said on the sidelines of a ceremony to hand over equipment as part of preparations for the Grand Magal scheduled for September 26.

This equipment is a support to religious authorities and populations in their efforts to anticipate the high production of waste during this religious event.

Thiam assured that 27 trucks, 100 garbage bags, 10,000 protective masks and other cleaning tools will be made available to the organizing committee in addition to the installation of four standardized collection points.

This material will help improve cleanliness in the city, and improve the immediate living environment in order to facilitate the reception of pilgrims expected in Touba, he said the coordinator of the UCG.

He invited the population to use the devices put in place to facilitate the work of collecting agents of the UCG.

The Grand Magal of Touba causes a large production of waste, which is why it is important to collect them in the neighborhoods and bring them to the landfills, said Mr. Thiam.
