Canada/Saint-Alexandre prepares for growth
Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska wants to avoid having its growth curbed. The municipality is preparing to facilitate its long-term real estate development. According to demographic projections, 197 additional housing units will be needed by 2040 to accommodate 361 new residents, representing a population increase of 15.8%.
Two new buildings, with a total of 18 homes, have just been completed. One on Route 289 and the other on Avenue du Foyer.
According to the press release, the municipality wishes "to plan now for structured and coherent real estate development to adequately meet the community's future needs. "
Investments are already underway to modernize the drinking water infrastructure, and an update of the wastewater infrastructure is forthcoming. "The idea is to create conditions that are conducive to population growth: refurbishment, modernization of the drinking water plant and, ultimately, improving the treatment capacity and reception capacity of the wastewater plant," explains the municipality's mayor, Nicolas Bradette.
Still, the scarcity of land remains a problem. "In Saint-Alexandre, space is certainly an issue. So, the objective is to prepare the future of the municipality of Saint-Alexandre. [...] The idea is to maintain this construction within Saint-Alexandre, and then prepare for the expansion of the urban perimeter," says the mayor.
