After its first edition in 2021, the Energy and Sustainable Development Exhibition returns to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, on September 22, 2023, with the aim of assessing the state of energy transition in Africa.

What energy transition policies should be adopted in Africa to boost economies and improve people's living conditions? This is the theme of the second Salon sur l'énergie et le développement durable to be held in Abidjan on September 22 and 23, 2023. The event, organized in Côte d'Ivoire's economic capital, will bring together representatives of governments and international organizations, researchers and economic operators from across Africa.

Several themes will be on the agenda, including the future of hydrocarbons, decarbonization of mining industries, the role of digital technology in energy efficiency and rural electrification. Among the companies expected to take part are Compagnie ivoirienne d'électricité (CIE), Électricité de France (EDF), US consultancy Dalberg, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Agence d'électrification rurale du Mali (AER).

The fair, organized by the Ivorian association "Light On", is supported by the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). It will also see the participation of the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) and the German Agency for International Development Cooperation (GIZ) via its Water and Energy for Food (WE4Food) initiative.

Indeed, a study shows that the energy and food crises are linked insofar as the industrial food system "is more dependent on fossil fuels as an energy source than other sectors". Against this backdrop, the panelists at the Abidjan show will once again reflect on new processes likely to encourage investment in renewable energies between now and 2030.
