Togo/Local Development: The Bas-Mono 1 Municipality Sets Its Sights on 2036
In Togo, the Bas-Mono 1 municipality, located in the Maritime Region, has launched the process of drafting its Municipal Development Plan (MDP). This strategic document is intended to identify the priority needs of the population, define the actions to be taken, and mobilize the resources necessary to carry out local development projects.
The plan is part of a vision for 2036: to make Bas-Mono 1 an attractive, prosperous, and resilient municipality, built on effective and participatory local governance, with a competitive regional economy that sustainably harnesses local resources, as well as an inclusive, safe, and high-quality living environment for all residents.
For the prefect of Bas-Mono, Sogbo Kokou Amétépé, the PDC must reflect the aspirations of the communities while taking into account the economic, social, cultural, and environmental realities of the municipality. For his part, the first deputy mayor, Romain Dansou, emphasized that this document will enable the municipality to better address its challenges and harness the area’s potential.
The drafting process involves an assessment of the municipality’s socioeconomic situation, an inventory of its strengths and constraints, and then a collaborative definition of objectives and priority actions across various development sectors.
The PDC will also serve as a framework for consultation among municipal authorities, decentralized government agencies, civil society organizations, economic stakeholders, and the local population. This participatory approach is intended to ensure that local needs are better addressed and to guide the municipality’s investments over the next ten years.
Through this initiative, Bas-Mono 1 is establishing a framework to guide its local development policy and plan its long-term investments.
