Morocco-Brazil: “Diplomatic Day” Highlights the Prospects for a Partnership Set to Grow Stronger

The second edition of “Diplomatic Day,” organized on Thursday, August 27, in Casablanca by the Association For Morocco, highlighted relations between Morocco and Brazil. The event, held at the “Al Adarissa” Youth Platform in Sidi Maârouf, was attended by Brazil’s ambassador to Morocco, Alexandre Guido Lopes Parola. Discussions centered on the prospects for developing the bilateral partnership and the role of parallel diplomacy in bringing the two peoples closer together.
The Association For Morocco continues its monthly initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue, exchange, and mutual understanding among peoples. For its second edition, the focus was on Brazil, with the participation of His Excellency Mr. Alexandre Guido Lopes Parola, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Kingdom of Morocco, who served as the event’s guest of honor. Speaking at the event, the ambassador praised the initiative, noting that this type of gathering allows diplomatic representatives to engage directly with a broad and diverse audience. According to him, these forums for dialogue help bring peoples closer together and strengthen relations between states in their human, cultural, and societal dimensions, complementing institutional dialogue.
Referring to Moroccan-Brazilian relations, H.E. Alexandre Guido Lopes Parola stated that they are based on three pillars: “solid political trust, natural economic complementarity, and a shared vision of ambitious South–South cooperation.” He also noted that bilateral dialogue has taken shape in recent years, particularly through high-level visits in 2024. This momentum is also reflected in economic exchanges, which, according to the ambassador, have reached a record high. “Agriculture, fertilizers, agribusiness, and the food trade are among the main sectors of cooperation, driven by strong complementarity between the two economies,” he emphasized. New opportunities are also emerging in the aerospace, infrastructure, and logistics sectors. “The most promising opportunities lie in agricultural innovation, energy, and the integration of value chains. Logistical connectivity, particularly via Tanger Med, is also a strategic asset. The focus must now shift from trade to investment partnerships,” the ambassador stated.
Morocco, a Hub for Triangular Cooperation in Africa
The future of the Moroccan-Brazilian partnership clearly cannot be built without taking the African dimension into account. When asked about the possibilities for triangular cooperation, H.E. Alexandre Guido Lopes Parola noted that Brazil recognizes Morocco’s growing role as a strategic platform in Africa, particularly due to its stability and infrastructure. “Morocco can serve as a gateway for Brazilian companies to the African continent. For its part, Brazil can facilitate access to South America,” he explained. This complementarity could thus pave the way for joint projects in several sectors, notably agriculture, infrastructure, and logistics.
Parallel Diplomacy: A Lever for Closer Ties
For his part, Yassine Errikh, president of the Association For Morocco, emphasized that this second edition reflected the organization’s commitment to contributing to the development of parallel diplomacy, which he considered an important lever for dialogue and rapprochement between peoples. “Parallel diplomacy makes it possible, among other things, to create spaces for exchange that bring together people and stakeholders from different backgrounds around a common goal: getting to know one another better and strengthening ties between societies,” he explained. With this in mind,“Diplomatic Day” is intended to serve both as a platform for dialogue and exchange and as a space conducive to reflection and the emergence of new initiatives. The goal is to foster cultural discovery and forge connections that could lead to new forms of cooperation. The choice of Brazil aligns with this ambition. Yassine Errikh specifically expressed the hope that this edition would serve as the starting point for a dynamic of joint work between Morocco and Brazil, particularly in the fields of culture and youth.
A Tribute Marked by Equal Opportunity
The second edition of “Diplomatic Day” was also marked by a tribute paid by the Association For Morocco and the Rotary Club Casablanca Mers Sultan to Mouhssine Khouira, a young doctoral student in private law at Hassan II University in Casablanca. Despite living with a physical disability, he was able to overcome significant challenges throughout his school and university career, particularly those related to writing, note-taking, and exams. After earning his high school diploma with honors, he chose to study law, driven in particular by a desire to help defend the rights of people with disabilities and those with limited mobility. Currently a doctoral student in the “Law, Society, and Comparative Systems” laboratory at Hassan II University, Mouhssine Khouira is conducting research focused on law, migration, inclusion, and access to justice. His motto, which he has embraced since high school, sums up his philosophy: “Never give up; nothing is impossible, even with a disability.” Through this tribute, the two organizations sought to highlight a life story that embodies the values they share, including perseverance, solidarity, support for youth, celebrating inspiring stories, and promoting a more inclusive society. Beyond recognizing an individual’s success, this initiative aims to underscore the importance of equal opportunity, support, and everyone’s participation in society. It also illustrates the purpose of“Diplomatic Day”: to build bridges between diplomacy, civil society, and youth, using dialogue as a means to foster closer ties and spur new initiatives.
