France: A Beautiful Love Story Between These Two Towns

The Locminé Sister City Committee welcomed its counterparts from Medebach for a visit marked by friendship and cultural exchange.

This annual event continues to foster the friendship between Locminé and its German sister city, Medebach: as it does every two years, the twinning committee hosted a German delegation for five days.

From Rohan to the Gulf of Morbihan

The organizers had put together a wonderful itinerary that allowed the group of 33 people to immerse themselves in the heritage and history of inland Brittany, with stops in Rohan and Pontivy.

The journey then turned toward more ancient history, with a stop in Locmariaquer to soak up the richness of the Neolithic period.

The visitors also had the chance to enjoy the coastline. As committee president Raymond Laudrin noted during the reception at the Salle de la Maillette, “You enjoyed the sand and the deep blue sea on the beaches of the Morbihan coast.”

This highlight of the event took place in the presence of local elected officials, notably Jacqueline Le Gall, deputy mayor of Locminé in charge of social affairs, who met with the new mayor of Medebach, Frank Linnekugel, and the president of the German sister city association, Andréa Becker. The founders of the Locminé association—Hervé Cario and Denise Moisan—also attended the ceremony.

Passing the Torch to the Next Generation

Beyond tourism, this gathering reaffirms the values of the twinning : “We reaffirm our commitment to encounter, friendship, fraternity, and the European commitment to peace. In doing so, we honor the founding principles of our 1992 twinning pledge,” Raymond Laudrin noted, before concluding with remarks on the committee’s future: “We must pass this on from generation to generation to preserve this strong bond between our two regions and our spirit of exchange and openness toward others.”

A promise for the future of a thirty-year friendship that is bound to endure: plans are already in place for the Locminois to travel to Germany in early summer 2027.
