France/Portet-sur-Garonne. A new office for the sister city association

Marie-Claude Giraud serves as president, alongside Aurélie Torreilles (vice president), Gilles Pouyllau (treasurer), and Michel Borraz (secretary). On this occasion, Jackie Darrax was named an honorary member.

This award recognizes his unwavering commitment since the twinning program began and his dedication to sustaining the ties between Portet-sur-Garonne and Binéfar, Spain. Founded in 1985 as the twinning committee, Portet Jum’Accueil is celebrating more than forty years of exchanges between the two towns. Over the years, numerous sports, cultural, and educational partnerships have developed, such as the regular matches between the Portet Isard Club and the Club Litera Montaña of Binéfar. The 40th anniversary of the sister city relationship was celebrated in 2025 in both towns. The first half of 2026 confirmed this momentum. In April, a group of students from Binéfar, accompanied by their mayor, was welcomed in Portet and participated in ceremonies commemorating the victims and heroes of the deportation. In June, a delegation from Portet traveled to Binéfar for the opening of an exhibition by local artist Serge Defay. That same month, coaches and young people from ASPCR, Portet’s soccer club, shared their experiences with their Spanish counterparts, while the tennis clubs from both towns organized their first sports meet, with the goal of involving young people in the future. Other projects are already being considered, particularly between cycling clubs. Finally, the association invites residents and local organizations interested in developing exchanges with Binéfar to contact them for support with their initiatives.
