France/Teloché. Fifty Years of Sister City Relations with Varrel
On Saturday, Teloché welcomed families from Varrel, a town in the Stuhr district of Germany. This year was special because it marked 50 years of friendship between these two communities.
As soon as they arrived, the 40 German families were met by their hosts, who escorted them to the hall, where welcome speeches were given and the week’s program was announced. Present at the event were Gérard Lambert, mayor of Teloché; Didier Martin, deputy mayor in charge of community organizations; Jannick Lambert, president of the festival committee; and Marie-Pierre Brosset, departmental councilor. “We’re happy to be back in Teloché to spend a week together and rediscover French culture. We’re glad to be able to share wonderful conversations with our friends who have been hosting us for 50 years. At first, there was curiosity, but also a certain amount of caution. Little by little, trust took root. Over the years, our exchange has developed and grown. Today we can say that the friendship between Teloché and Varrel is very much alive, ” declared the mayor of Varrel. The festivities kicked off in the afternoon with a trip to Laser Game. On Sunday, there was an intergenerational scavenger hunt followed by lunch at a food truck, before the big trip to Puy du Fou on Monday. Tuesday was a free day to spend with families. On Wednesday, the 50th-anniversary celebration, featuring a meal and an open-air dance. Only the table tennis event had to be canceled due to the heat wave, and the pétanque game was rescheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. This Thursday is the day the German guests depart.
