France/Texas High School Students Visit Cognac with the Sister City Committee
Seven Americans are currently in Cognac as part of an exchange program with the city’s sister city committee. Seven residents of Cognac will be traveling to Texas next weekend.
A month spent between Cognac and Denison, Texas—that’s the plan for fourteen young people this July. Seven Americans and seven French students are participating in an exchange program organized by the twinning committee, “Cognac sans frontières,” with the city of Denison.
The Texans have left behind the World Cup frenzy back home to discover Cognac—its heritage and craftsmanship, as well as its way of life—since these 16- to 18-year-olds are staying with host families. The “Frenchies,” for their part, will fly to Texas next weekend. This year, the group consists of high school students from Jean-Monnet, but Florence Havelaar, president of the twinning committee, points out that registration is open to everyone: “You need to be curious, open-minded, have a spirit of discovery and respect for others, and still have a good command of English.” For those interested, you have a year to brush up on your English. The twinning committee will be available to provide information about this exchange at the associations fair on September 12 and 13 in Cognac.
