France/ Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits. Sister city relationship with The Witterings: a strong friendship for 26 years
The town of Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits has been twinned with The Witterings, located on the southwestern coast of Sussex, since 2000. The English twinning delegation was hosted in Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits from June 11 to 14.
Staying with host families, they enjoyed a very pleasant program organized by the twinning committee, including a reception at City Hall hosted by Christian Aimé, the mayor, and Stella Charrier, the deputy mayor for culture.
They enjoyed a day of cycling to Veillon Beach, a visit to the market in Port Bourgenay, a stop at La Guinguette, and a tour of Talmont Castle. They also loved the boat ride through the Marais Poitevin, which they found to be a refreshing change of scenery. Meals and convivial evenings with friends from Moutier punctuated the stay. Jacqueline Martineau, president of the Twinning Committee, remarked: “New people came for the first time; I hope this will encourage younger people to participate in the exchanges.” In 2028, the residents of Moutier will visit The Witterings, and our friends have already been invited to the 30th anniversary of the twinning in 2030. Mireille, chair of the Twinning Committee, thanked the residents of Moutier for their warm hospitality. “We’re leaving delighted with our stay.”
