Sixteen high school students from Landerneau (Finistère) visited Hünfeld, a German town twinned with the Finistère town. Together with their peers from across the Rhine, they celebrated forty years of friendship between the young people of the two towns.

The Élorn High School in Landerneau (Finistère) and the Wigbertschule recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of their partnership with Hünfeld, their German sister city, during a joint trip lasting several days to the small town in the state of Hesse.

The official ceremony, organized largely by Anna Dorothéa Schrimpf—a French teacher and the German coordinator of the exchange since 2020—took place at the Wigbert High School in Hünfeld in the presence of the mayor of Hünfeld.

The sixteen 10th-grade students studying German at Élorn stayed with their exchange partners and, together with their German classmates, designed a new logo to mark the 40th anniversary of the twinning.

The Foundation of European Unity

Gilles Cornillet, principal of Élorn, and Sandra Möllers, the German principal, emphasized in their speeches that Franco-German friendship—nurtured in particular by school exchanges—represents a foundation of European unity.

Loïc Bannier, vice president of the Landerneau–Hünfeld twinning committee, emphasized that the experiences the students had in the neighboring country fostered their open-mindedness and contributed to their development as European citizens.

Claudine Moreau, a German teacher at the Lycée de l’Elorn and organizer of the exchange since 2008—taking over from Michel Jambou and Heidrun Joncour—announced that the students from Hünfeld will be visiting from September 24 to October1, for new festivities that will showcase Breton culture. The official 40th-anniversary ceremony will be held on Friday, September 25, at the Lycée de l’Elorn.
