Togo/ Lacs 1 commune promotes new standards for sheds and stores
In Togo, the Lacs 1 municipality is tightening the rules governing light commercial construction on its territory. This week in Aného, municipal authorities presented the new models of sheds and stores that will now be authorized in the commune.
This awareness campaign is part of the local sanitation and urban improvement policy. It brought together traditional authorities, religious leaders, community leaders, grassroots development committees and representatives of associations.
According to the mayor, Alexis Aquereburu, the new infrastructures will have to meet precise requirements in terms of aesthetics, safety and occupation of public space. In particular, the buildings concerned will have to adopt a uniform white color to promote better visual harmonization of commercial spaces.
For the local authorities, this reform is intended to support the urban transformation of Aného and the surrounding localities. It comes at a time when local authorities are seeking to better organize informal economic activities and improve the management of public rights-of-way.
The adoption of common standards for sheds and stores should also facilitate the control of commercial installations and contribute to improving the attractiveness of the area. City officials believe that the quality of the urban environment is an important factor in the development of local economic activities.
The municipality also plans to continue informing the public about the new provisions, to ensure their gradual application. Ultimately, this should support the construction of a more organized urban framework in line with the development guidelines defined by the local authorities.
