In Togo, the project entitled "Reinforcement des capacités des groupements des femmes productrices d'huile de coco des préfectures des Lacs, Vo, Bas-Mono et Golfe" was officially launched on Tuesday May 5, 2026 in Aného. The initiative is funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), through the Togo Coastal Communities Climate Resilience Project (R4C-Togo).

The program, for which the amount of funding was not disclosed, targets six cooperatives in the maritime region. It aims to build the capacities of women producers in coconut oil processing, particularly in terms of quality production techniques, packaging, labeling and product conditioning, in order to improve their competitiveness on the markets.

In its operational phase, the project will provide support for equipment such as crushers, mixers, tarpaulins and other processing materials. Beneficiaries will also receive structured coaching and awareness-raising sessions on raw material sourcing.

According to the promoters, this initiative is part of a drive to enhance the value of the coconut industry, strengthen food security and empower rural women. The aim is to improve the technical, organizational and entrepreneurial skills of beneficiaries.

The project is a response to the fact that the coconut industry is an important lever for development in several coastal areas of Togo, helping to create jobs, diversify household incomes and enhance the value of local agricultural resources. However, women working in this sector are still faced with a shortage of equipment and means of production.

Through this initiative, the partners aim to support a better structuring of the activity and increase the productivity of the beneficiary cooperatives.
