France/ In Mirecourt, the twinning committee keeps the flame alive with the town of Bonn-Beuel
The members of the twinning committee reported on the positive dynamic being established with their Bonn-Beuel counterparts. Exchanges are taking place between the two towns, confirmed by a 2026 program involving travel on both sides of the Rhine border.
The serene atmosphere at the Twinning Committee's annual general meeting, held in the town council chamber, reflected the mood within the group of volunteers. Around twenty people attended the review of the past year's activities, before the presentation of projects for 2026.
"During the Karneval in Beuel in February 2025, the town band, the town council, a few footballers and other members of the committee travelled to Beuel for three days to take part in the Good Women's Carnival and enjoy a convivial program. A bus had been organized by the town. Chaperones and the U10 and U13 soccer teams were hosted by Preussen's sporting friends over an extended weekend in May: Several matches were played and meals shared between young and old alike", said Silvia Ropa and Maria Mulot, co-presidents of the committee, while Lucie Petitjean, secretary, accurately recorded the minutes of the meeting.
A number of Beuel residents came to Mirecourt for the Fête de la Musique, staying with local people or in hotels. "Thomas came alone to Mirecourt on his bike in August. He stayed for two days before setting off again, still by bike, in the direction of Trier", added a co-president.
The treasurer, Claude Fondeur, reported a stable financial situation, mainly used to cover the cost of bus transport. Finally, the mayor reminded committee members that a room would soon be made available to them once work on the building next to the swimming pool was completed.
A delegation at the Beuel carnival
The Beuel carnival will take place from Wednesday February 11 to Saturday February 14, with the two co-presidents and members of the soccer club travelling to the event. The program includes a meeting with the Princess of the Washerwomen on Wednesday, the parade on Thursday, a classical concert at the Bonn Opera House on Friday evening and, finally, the carnival parade in Schwarzrheindorf.
In March, Léz' arts artists will take part in an exhibition at Beuel town hall. A trip to Berlin, organized by the Komitee, is being considered for April. The soccer club could host its Beuel counterpart in May. A Franco-German march, organized by Astragale, will take place at the end of September in the Metz region. Mirecurtiens and Beuelois share the organization of this annual meeting, held halfway through the year.
The first Beuelois outing for the newly-elected Mirecurtians could be the Pützchen fair (parade of old tractors, concert under the Bavarian tent). The members of the committee have been thinking about other events that might interest the people of Beuel to visit on dates compatible with their availability. For some periods, it will be necessary to accommodate guests, with vacation constraints. In the coming weeks, we'll be fine-tuning the program of festivities and events.
