Benin/Inclusion sociale au Bénin : L'État renforce ses actions en faveur des personnes handicapées
The conference room of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance hosted a press briefing on public policies in favor of people living with disabilities. Hosted by the Director of Inclusion and Solidarity, Mr. Boubacal BANI YERO, this meeting with media professionals provided an opportunity to take stock of the actions undertaken by the Beninese State, as well as the reforms undertaken to strengthen social inclusion.
On this occasion, the Director recalled the significant progress made since 2016, thanks in particular to the adoption of the Law of September 29, 2017 on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Republic of Benin. According to him, this founding text constitutes the legal foundation guaranteeing the rights, dignity and social and economic inclusion of people living with disabilities.
Mr. Boubacal BANI YERO then presented the concrete support provided by the government. These include a global subsidy of 100 million FCFA for inclusive private establishments, the support of 264 disabled entrepreneurs since 2024, the implementation of an innovative programme to promote the rights of people living with disabilities.uissement d'un programme innovant de prise en charge des enfants autistes, as well as Crédit Inclusion, a mechanism dedicated to the financial empowerment of disabled people.
On the social and educational front, the Director of Inclusion and Solidarity announced the granting of scholarships of 100,000 FCFA to disabled students, accompanied by meal vouchers. He also recalled the effective application of the 5% quota reserved for disabled people in direct civil service competitive examinations, in line with legal provisions aimed at promoting equal opportunities.
Placing these actions within the vision of President Patrice TALON, whom he praised for his commitment to social issues, Mr. Boubacal BANI YERO concluded with a call for collective mobilization. He invited public institutions, civil society and technical and financial partners to unite their efforts to remove persistent barriers and enable disabled people to live full lives of dignity, autonomy and hope.
