"Benoît Cerexhe, mayor of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, presented the merger project between two Woluwe-Saint-Pierre secondary schools, the Eddy Merckx school center and the Crommelynck royal athenaeum, to the press at the commune's town hall on Tuesday.

The merger between the Athénée Royal Crommelynck, a school for which Wallonie-Bruxelles Enseignement (WBE) is the organizing authority, and the Centre Scolaire Eddy Merckx, for which the commune of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre is the organizing authority, is a first between two schools from different networks, with different organizing authorities.

The two schools had the advantage of being located less than 500 meters from each other. "This is the first merger project for mainstream education", said Olivier Doyen, WBE's acting managing director. Other projects of this type had already been carried out by WBE in adult education.

"This is a project that will produce quality education on the territory of the commune of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre. It's an essential element that will stabilize and perpetuate our teaching, that of WBE and that of the commune. It's a long-term partnership", added Olivier Doyen.

The new school complex will offer a curriculum combining general, technical and vocational education, with a capacity of around 800 students. "It's also positive for the teachers", added the mayor, claiming that there would be no job losses. Those involved stressed that the merger would require very little work, and that the whole complex would be ready for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
