Chad: in Mandoul, AARMOC visits women detainees at the prison
As part of its program to train and reintegrate volunteers from Action des Artistes pour le Développement et l'Education aux Droits Humains (AARMOC), a delegation made up of the AARMOC team and sponsored by the deputy mayor of the commune of Koumra, Gnanroy Mbanguidana Grâce, visited the prison.
The aim of the visit was to find out about the conditions under which women are held in this prison, and also to see what has been achieved in terms of reintegrating them into working life once they have been released. After a tour of the women's quarters, the members of the delegation took stock of the property. The delegation then had a frank exchange with the inmates.
It emerged from this exchange that there is a training framework in structuring trades, notably sewing, welding, knitting and carpentry, within the prison, but that it lacks materials. In addition, there is a strong demand for the processing of local products.
The inmates expressed their regret at the various offenses that had landed them in this re-education center. While urging the others to take responsibility and become aware of the acts of violence, they promise to change their behavior once they are released.
A few kits containing soap, detergents, clothes and other items were given to the ladies to express their attachment to them. Wise advice was given respectively by Madjimbé Mimo Iverson, coordinator of AARMOC, and Denemadji Gladys, trainee in the training and reintegration program at AARMOC.insertion program at AARMOC, for resilience during this period of incarceration, and not to lose hope in their reintegration.
The deputy mayor of the town of Koumra, Gnanroy Mbanguidana Grâce, was very emotional, expressing her indignation at seeing so many women languishing in prison for various offences, despite the fact that their place as mothers is alongside their children for their education.
In her opinion, women need to be aware of certain facts if they are not to find themselves in trouble with the law. She promises to advocate for the improvement of their living conditions, but also to offer them materials for training in trades that will help them reintegrate into society.
