France/ Despite uncertain future, Aunay's English twinning committee does not throw in the towel
Although a new board was formed on October 7, 2025, the future of the Aunay-Holsworthy twinning committee in Aunay-sur-Odon, Calvados, remains uncertain.
On Tuesday October 7, 2025, the Aunay-Holsworthy twinning committee held its general meeting at the salle des pompes in Aunay-sur-Odon (Les Monts d'Aunay), Calvados.
Resigning president Thierry Delaunay presented the committee's report.
These years of friendship and conviviality have lasted 50 years. There have been some fine achievements. Sadly, there have also been moments of sadness with all the people who have left us. Thanks to the team around me, I hope with all my heart that it will continue for as long as possible.
Waiting for the English response, the vagueness
The future of the twinning seems uncertain, even if on the French side, the desire is to maintain these ties of friendship. On the English side, however, the twinning no longer has a president or an office. On the other hand, there are more families - around 15 - on the French side than on the English side to make the exchanges work. A video meeting will be set up between the two twinnings to find out each party's intentions in real time.
A few months earlier, members of the Aun twinning committee had been " royally received " by their English counterparts during their 2025 trip.
A new board elected for the twinning committee
Nevertheless, a trip by the English to France remains a possibility. As far as events are concerned, the committee no longer plans to organize major ones, as there are not enough volunteers. The members of the new board are determined to keep the committee going.
We'll be sending a press release to the English, telling them that the Aunay committee has been formed and wishes to continue our exchanges. What about them? Twinning requires two committees.
Martine Jouin
Martine Jouin is the new president of the committee. After the resignation of the president, a new committee was formed.
It comprises Martine Jouin, president and secretary; Luc Mautauban, treasurer; Chantal Mourice, deputy secretary; and Isabelle Fouques-Cariou, accommodation manager.
