Togo's maritime region is to be equipped with a hospital development plan, as part of a reform of its healthcare system. On Tuesday October 21 and Wednesday October 22, 2025, the Maison des Jeunes et de la Femme in Tsévié hosted a workshop to launch the Hospital Establishment Project (PEH).

This initiative by the Ministry of Health, supported by the Global Fund, aims to provide each health facility with a strategic tool for improving governance, quality of care and hospital performance.

At the opening ceremony, Taïrou Bagbiègue, Governor of the region, reminded participants that the PEH will serve as a genuine hospital development plan, adapted to the real needs of the population. " Tomorrow's hospital must be patient-centered and modern", he declared, underlining the importance of strategic planning for the period 2026-2030.

For his part, Dr Koffi Agbétiafa, Regional Director of Maritime Health, pointed out that this approach was part of the government's Roadmap 2025, which aims to promote equitable and sustainable access to healthcare.

Ultimately, the project will strengthen the management capabilities of hospitals and type 2 peripheral care units (USP2), while aligning practices with hospital governance standards. Similar workshops will be organized in all regions to ensure harmonized planning of the national hospital system.

At regional level (maritime region), the PEH was launched on Tuesday October 21, 2025, while in the Autonomous District of Greater Lomé (DAGL) the exercise has been underway since last August.
