France

Ten years after the twenty-first Conference of the Parties (COP21) and the Paris Agreement, the third United Nations Conference on the Ocean (UNOC3) was held in Nice from June 9 to 13, 2025. In conjunction with this global event, the City of Nice also hosted the Coastal Cities and Regions Summit to put the issue of adaptation and resilience of coastal cities and regions to rising sea levels on the international agenda. The Summit convinced the international community that coastal adaptation could not be envisaged without local authorities.

Against this backdrop, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the French Ministry for Ecological Transition, the French Development Agency (AFD), the Centre d'études et d'expertise sur les risques, l'environnement, la mobilité et l'aménagement (Cerema), Cités et Gouvernements Locaux Unis (CGLU) et l'aménagement (Cerema), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the Plateforme Océan et Climat (POC) and the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) have joined forces to launch the very first edition of the Sustainable Coastal Development call for projects.

The rules for this call for projects are now available on the France Diplomatie website. Applications can be submitted online up to and including January 30, 2026, via the Démarches Simplifiées platform.
