Senegal/Agricultural resilience program launched in Bignona for 15,000 households in four departments
Two thousand eight hundred and three vulnerable households in the southern department of Bignona will benefit from the Agricultural Resilience Program (PRA) designed to boost the country's food security, Maïmouna Dièye, Minister for the Family, Social Action and Solidarity, was told on Friday.
The PRA is aimed at 15,000 households living in the departments of Bignona, Gossas (center), Louga and Ranérou (north), she said at its official launch.
In total, 15,000 vulnerable households in the departments of Louga, Ranérou, Gossas and Bignona will benefit from a3 billion CFA francs," she said, adding that the aim of this government initiative is to boost food security.
The beneficiaries are farmers, according to Maïmouna Dièye.
Each household will receive a subsidy of 200,000 CFA francs for the purchase of agricultural inputs and small equipment, she said.
The subsidy will be used to strengthen the beneficiaries' agricultural production capacity, Ms. Dièye added.
The 2,803 beneficiary households in the Bignona department will share 560.6 million CFA francs, she said.
The PRA will train and sensitize its beneficiaries to good agricultural practices, promised the Minister of Family, Social Action and Solidarity.
Regional rural development departments will take part in training households.
This program reflects the government's determination to build a sovereign, fair and prosperous Senegal, through a structural transformation of the economy", said Maïmouna Dièye.
The mayor of Bignona, Bacary Diatta, welcomed the launch of the PRA, saying he was delighted that households dependent on fishing and livestock farming would also benefit.
This program reflects the government's clear commitment to building an inclusive, resilient and supportive society," said Mr. Diatta.
The official PRA launch ceremony was attended by administrative authorities and representatives of local authorities in the Bignona department.
