Côte d'Ivoire/ Local management committee and biodiversity project coordinating council join forces to strengthen participatory management of Comoé Park
The Local Management Committee (LMC) and the Coordination Council (CC) of the Comoé National Park Biodiversity Protection Project held their 47th and 14th sessions in Kong on Wednesday July 30, 2025, respectively, with a view to strengthening the participative management of this protected area.
Gathered in the prefecture's meeting room, some thirty participants representing statutory members and resource persons discussed the operation of the park's sustainable management support bodies.
Presiding over the proceedings, the Prefect of the Bounkani region, Yacouba Doumbia, praised the mobilization of the players and stressed the importance of regular sessions to guarantee effective management of the park.
The members of the CGL noted a 66% performance for the North-East zone management in the second quarter, while pointing out certain shortcomings in the implementation of activities.
Discussions at the coordinating council focused on the progress of social infrastructures, the construction of agro-pastoral dams, the situation of refugees and their livestock, and gold panning on the park's outskirts.
The representative of the Director General of the Office ivoirien des parcs et réserves (OIPR), colonel-major Ouattara Dramane Kassoum, reaffirmed OIPR's commitment to working for the sustainable conservation of the park's natural resources.
The next session of the committee is scheduled for November 2025 in Kafolo, with the proclamation of the winners of the "green prize" for the best local conservation initiatives on the agenda.
