Belgium/Let yourself be carried away by a story, lulled by the wind and the song of the birds: French-speaking libraries go beyond their walls
Reading outdoors: that's what many libraries are offering this summer, as part of the "Reading in the Parks" operation. This is the 24th edition. For three weeks now, events have been taking place all over the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
The operation targets young children in particular, who are invited to listen to stories told by librarians and/or animators. But not in the hushed atmosphere of a library: outside. In a park, on a square, or in a shared garden.
This is the type of venue chosen by the Gilly library, near Charleroi, for its young audience of the day. The Royal Garden hosted the first event of this summer's operation on Tuesday afternoon. Some thirty children aged 4 to 7 took part. They listened to the books selected by librarian Paul Gillet and were quickly captivated.
The "Lire dans les parcs" operation continues until August 22. Times and dates depend on the local library. For further information, visit the French-language public library website: https://bibliotheques.cfwb.be/nc/detail-dune-actualite/news/lire-dans-les-parcs-2025/
