One hundred and fifty young people from Sagatta Gueth, a commune in the northern department of Kébémer, took part in a capacity-building session on Saturday, focusing on business creation and job search techniques to improve their employability, said its mayor, Asse Lô Gaydel.

This initiative, supported by the Sagatta Gueth town council, in partnership with the Agence nationale pour la promotion de l'emploi des jeunes (ANPEJ), aims to improve the employability of young people, but also to support them towards economic autonomy.

"As part of Agenda Senegal 2050, the government has made human capital a strategic priority. We want to include the commune of Sagatta Gueth in this dynamic, by equipping our young people to create, manage and sustain their own businesses", explained Mr. Gaydel, at the opening of the capacity-building workshop. ANPEJ advisors and technicians from several towns across the country took part in the event.

He welcomed the participation of over 150 young people from the commune of Sagatta Gueth and surrounding villages.

"We're going to teach participants job search techniques with the support of ANPEJ advisors and technicians from Louga, Tivaouane, Kébémer and Thiès," he said, stressing the need to support young people in the process of professional and economic integration.

"The real problem today, according to him, is not the lack of funding". "Rather, it's the lack of training for young people. We need to educate young people, give them a financial education so that they know how to manage the funds they receive through a business plan", he said.

He pointed out that enrolling young people in ANPEJ databases is also one of the major objectives of this initiative. "This will enable better follow-up in terms of training and integration", he explained.

Sylvestre Bassène, employment advisor at Louga's ANPEJ, hailed "this initiative by Mayor Asse Lô Gaydel and magnified his commitment to improving the employability of young people in his commune".

"The role we played was to respond to the mayor's call. The ANPEJ is there to support, guide and help young people integrate into the economic fabric. We can't be present everywhere. That's why we welcome the mayor's initiative," he said.

He also emphasized the multiplier effect of awareness-raising. "These 150 trained young people can act as relays in the villages. Thanks to them, information on public schemes such as ANPEJ, DER or 3FPT can reach all levels of village youth", he said. This collaboration between the Sagatta Gueth town council and ANPEJ could also inspire other local authorities in the region involved in the fight against youth unemployment.
