Canada/Work begins on moving City Hall to Place Sept-Îles
The move of Sept-Îles City Hall to Place Sept-Îles is taking shape. Work began on Thursday, with the arrival of some 50 municipal employees scheduled for September 2025.
All the services located at City Hall will be relocated, confirms Catherine Lauzon, General Manager of the City of Sept-Îles.
The relocated services should remain in the building for about two years, depending on the progress of construction of the new city hall.
Services to the public, such as finance, urban planning, the municipal court or the registry and legal affairs, will keep their counters in the new building. Nevertheless, the city expects to interrupt access to physical counters.
Ms. Lauzon assures us that there will be no complete interruption of service, and that employees will be able to respond to the public remotely during the transition period.
The city's intention is to have as little impact as possible. We'd like it to be no more than a week or two.

Work in progress in Sept-Îles
The Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI) has contracted Alliance Côte-Nord to create offices, workspaces and service counters.
This involves demolition work, the construction of walls and partitions, and electrical installation, as Ms. Lauzon explains.
Contacted about the cost of this work, SQI has not yet responded to our questions.
As for the new town hall, Catherine Lauzon assures us that the project is on track. The city is currently awaiting architectural plans for the new building, which must be approved before a call for tenders for construction can be launched.
Deconstruction of the old city hall is scheduled for autumn 2025, once the move has been finalized.
