At the initiative of the Ministry of Urban Sanitation, Local Development and Road Maintenance, several associations mobilized on June 7 in Brazzaville, to mark the 1st Saturday of the month, by beautifying the city and weeding certain areas where outlaws roam.

Among the sites beautified was the presidency of the Université Marien-Ngouabi, where the Club d'assainissement et de la protection de l'environnement (Cape), a student organization, cleaned up the corner of the main university library. Mohamed Makita, president of the Cape, explains why the site was chosen: "The Université Marien-Ngouabi is a symbol. It's the first university in the Congo, so it's a patriotic choice... As students and committed young people, it's our duty to be there to respond to this invitation from the government. We must not remain passive, we must assume our responsibility, because if the youth of a country is passive, I don't see how the evolution of a country can be possible", he said.If a country's youth are passive , I don't see how a country can evolve", he reminded his fellow students, urging them to get involved in cleaning up their living and working environment.

In the fourth arrondissement of Moungali, the first deputy mayor of Brazzaville, Corine Andzembo, mobilized associations to clean up the Madoukoutsékélé river.re Madoukoutsékélé, from avenue Marien-Ngouabi to rue Lénine, via avenue des Trois martyrs. This is to the great satisfaction of local residents, who denounce the deviant behavior of some of them. "Every time we clean up, households with bad manners come and dump garbage at night, and it's the same old story. This has got to stop", echoed one local resident.

In arrondissement 9 Djiri, CAP21 Avenir et perspectives weeded in front of the town hall, where bandits have taken advantage of weed growth to set up shop. "We've noticed the activities of criminals here. It was good for us to get rid of the weeds that served as a refuge for the bandits. Next time, we'll do the same at the cemetery near Makabandilou and Manianga, which are also high-risk areas", said CAP21 communications officer Stiffer Missié Likibi.

Several other associations were on the ground on the first Saturday in June. These included Ville sans déchets at the Lycée de la Révolution near the ex-TP, Salubrité et hygiène at the Avenir du rail stadium in the5th arrondissement, Ouenzé, Congo propreon Avenue des Jardins near the General Adoua roundabout level crossing, and Salubrité sans frontière opposite the Nicole-Oba gymnasium in Talangaï, 6th arrondissement.
