Togo aims to train 50,000 students each year in artificial intelligence, coding and digital English. To this end, the government has just launched a pilot program at the University of Lomé, targeting 1,500 students for the first phase this year.

The aim is to equip Togolese youth with the key skills of the digital economy, with a view to inclusion and the structural transformation of human capital.

According to Cina Lawson, Minister for Digitization and the Digital Economy, this is "a strategic investment in Togo's technological sovereignty".

The initiative is being rolled out in partnership with American startup Kira Learning, and is intended as a free national training program in artificial intelligence, Python programming and digital English.

Andrea Pasinetti, CEO of Kira Learning, hails this as "a visionary partnership" that places the country among the pioneers of digital learning in Africa.

The program is accessible entirely online, and combines interactive videos, practical exercises and personalized support via an AI tutor. On completion of the course, learners will receive a joint certificate from the Togolese universities and Kira Learning, with the possibility of international certification.

In addition to scientific disciplines, the program is also open to students in the humanities and social sciences.
