Journalists belonging to the Association nationale des chroniqueurs judiciaires (ANCJ - National Association of Judicial Columnists) were briefed by the Forum du justiciable on Saturday on the fight against financial crime in a context marked in Senegal by accountability, good governance and transparency in the management of public affairs.

With all the cases pending before the Financial Judicial Pool, the role of journalists specializing in the handling of judicial information is becoming more essential than ever", said Aliou Diouf, President of the ANCJ.said Aliou Diouf, President of ANCJ, adding that the public expects media professionals to provide "reliable, clear and precise information".

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of a capacity-building workshop for journalists on the fight against financial crime, led by Supreme Court magistrate Serigne Modou Diakhaté.

According to the ANCJ president, the fight against financial crime is everyone's business, and requires the involvement of the entire population, especially journalists who report on the law.

This workshop, organized for their benefit, will enable them to better understand the stakes involved in the fight against financial crime, a highly complex issue, he said.

It will strengthen our skills and familiarize us with certain essential legal concepts, so that we can better report to our readers, listeners and viewers", added Aliou Diouf.

For his part, the president of the Forum du Justiciable felt that it was essential that this drive for accountability be accompanied by an informed and responsible press.

As journalists specializing in legal issues, your role is fundamental. You are the watchdogs of our democracy, the guardians of information. Your ability to investigate, analyze and accurately report the facts of financial crime can make all the difference," stressed Babacar Ba.

He also expressed his conviction that journalists have the power to enlighten public opinion and thus contribute to an environment where "transparency is not an option, but a norm.is not an option but a norm, where accountability is not a distant concept but a daily reality, where the voice of every citizen is heard and respected''.
