Togo: the government launches the High Labor Intensity project for the Savannah region
In Togo, the government, in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO), this week (Monday, May 12, 2025) launched the HIMO (High Intensity Labor) project in Lomé, an initiative focused on creating temporary jobs for vulnerable populations.
The initiative, designed to support employment and strengthen social cohesion in this locality, comes at a time when the security situation is still fragile.
In detail, over a 12-month period, the scheme provides for labor-intensive community work: maintenance of rural tracks, reforestation, public worksites and practical training for young people, women and displaced persons.
The approach aims to generate immediate income while stimulating sustainable professional integration.
" The HIMO project is intended to be a concrete response, adapted to local realities, to restore hope in communities, create a local economic fabric and strengthen the local economy. conomic fabric and strengthen resilience in the face of everyday difficulties ", said Jacques Alandja, Director of Cabinet at the Ministry of Labor.
The initiative is part of the Programme d'urgence pour la région des Savanes (PURS), launched to support vulnerable populations in northern Togo.
