Canada/Métabetchouan-Lac-à-la-Croix wants to modernize the Le Rigolet beach site
The Ville de Métabetchouan-Lac-à-la-Croix is seeking funding to modernize the Le Rigolet beach site. The municipality presented a project valued at $5.4 million at an information session on Wednesday evening.
Ultimately, the town intends to build a new sanitary block, change the layout of the bicycle path that crosses the site, and redevelop the existing parking lot by adding 26 additional parking spaces.
The changes are designed to make the site accessible to both winter anglers and summer boaters.
Also grappling with issues of civic-mindedness during peak hours, the Town also assures that it will tighten surveillance of the site this summer.
According to André Fortin, mayor of Métabetchouan-Lac-à-la-Croix, the municipality is redoubling its efforts to find the funding needed to carry out the rehabilitation plan.
He points out that the resort is one of the few in the region to offer free access to Lac Saint-Jean. According to Mr. Fortin, its reputation could make it easier and quicker to find financial support.
You have to find the subsidies, and that's a big challenge. We have to go to the provincial level, but when we say that our site is recognized internationally, that opens the door for us to go to the federal level, so it's very interesting," he explained at the meeting.
For the moment, no timetable has been submitted by the city, but Mr. Fortin hopes that work can begin by the end of the summer or within the next year.
