Luxembourg/Street names now available in several villages in Vaux-sur-Sûre
In many rural communes, villages have no street names, only house numbers. In Vaux-sur-Sure, the number of inhabitants has been rising steadily for years, and in villages where there are only house numbers, the situation was becoming anarchic, with house numbers following one another and being located in different streets. A particular headache for firefighters.
For the street names, we called on the Seniors' Advisory Council. But adding street names is not a simple operation. You have to coordinate with the national register and the post office. A dozen villages had already completed the process, and Cobreville, Nives and Sûre have also had their street names for a month now. For local residents, this means a number of formalities, like changing their address. But the commune of vaux-sur-Sûre has decided to make things easier for residents: "In advance, we have prepared a number of certificates for residents who need to justify their change of address," explains Angélique Créer, a commune employee. For the self-employed, we can send them documents to modify their registration with the Carrefour bank. And then, for three months, the post office takes care of the mail follow-up!" All that's left to do is to change the details on the identity card, for which a brief visit to the local administration is in order. Residents of the villages of Cobreville, Nives and Sûre have until May 31 to do so! By the end of 2025, other villages will also have street names.
