Côte d'Ivoire/ A vast agricultural project planned in Tafiré to boost food security and empower women

The mayor of Tafiré, Coulibaly Sounkalo, announced on Saturday May 10, 2025 at Tiélétanakaha, the upcoming implementation of a structuring agricultural project supported by the Office d'aide à la commercialisation des produits vivriers (OCPV), aimed at strengthening food security and promoting the empowerment of rural women in the commune.

The announcement was made at the second ordinary session of the municipal council for 2025, in the presence of Tafiré sub-prefect Jean Marie Poho, representing prefect Maténin Ouattara.

The project includes the construction of a food market in Tafiré, to be run by OCPV. A delegation from this public administrative body recently visited the site to lay the groundwork for the project.

"It's important for this project to have everyone's support in order to make Tafiré a real granary for Côte d'Ivoire," said the mayor at the Tiélétanakaha multi-purpose hall.

The project also includes related activities such as the creation of a water reservoir, the development of fish farming, intensive food production and market gardening. These initiatives are designed to maximize economic and social benefits, particularly for women and young people.

According to the sub-prefect, this program will help lift women out of precariousness, while reinforcing their key role in the national fight against food insecurity.

Created by decree n°84-934 of July 27, 1984, then reorganized by decree n°2023-771 of September 23, 2023, theOCPV's mission is to modernize the marketing of food products, organize markets, improve supply and support players in the sector.
