On Thursday, no fewer than 68 families living in precarious housing in Oran were rehoused in new accommodation in the Misserghine commune.

Early in the morning, local authorities supervised the second phase of the rehousing operation for 68 families living in dilapidated housing in the old "Sidi El Houari" district. The families were transferred to new homes in the "Moudjahid Achouri Ahmed" district of Misserghine, a site with 900 public rental housing units.

As soon as the rehousing operation was completed, the demolition of the old dwellings was launched.

By the end of last weekend, 167 families living in precarious housing in the old "Sidi El Houari" district had been rehoused in decent accommodation in the same sector of the Misserghine commune.

The wali of Oran, Samir Chibani, had recently stressed that the land recovered in the "Sidi El Houari" district would be used to build new housing in the district's traditional architectural style.

He added that the housing will be built by public property developers such as the Office de promotion et de gestion immobilière, the Agence nationale d'amélioration du logement (AADL) and the Entreprise nationale de promotion immobilière (ENPI), as part of the subsidized promotional housing scheme.

The wali also stressed that "the operation to eradicate substandard housing and buildings threatening ruin is continuing in the wilaya of Oran".

It should be noted that this rehousing operation is the sixth of its kind since the beginning of the current year, affecting some 320 families in all, including 167 families who had been living in precarious housing and afamilies living in precarious and dilapidated housing in "Sidi El Houari", 9 families in "El Hamri", 27 families in the "El Makkari" communal delegation, andEl Makkari", 11 families in the "Mouahidine" delegation, 10 families in an old building in Haï "Oussama", in the "El Mokrani" and 16 other families living in old buildings in Haï "El Khaldia" (ex-Delmonte) in Oran have been rehoused in new housing.

These families benefited from housing in the urban centers of Oued Tlelat and Belgaïd, as well as in the 1,201 public rental housing estate in the Pépinière district of Bir El Djir.
