The City of Drummondville wants to help its citizens do more for the environment. To this end, it is launching a subsidy program for the purchase of eco-responsible products.

Called Everyday Green Gestures, the initiative has an annual budget of up to $15,000.

Reusable hygiene and grounds maintenance products, seeds and bicycles are among the items for which citizens will be able to claim 50% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $200 per category.

It's a first-come, first-served basis. You can register on the Ville de Drummondville website at drummondville.ca/gestesverts. You can get up to 50% off your bill on three types of products, and a maximum of $150 is eligible, unless the products are purchased in Drummondville stores. In that case, the ceiling is raised to $200 to encourage local purchases," points out Mayor Stéphanie Lacoste.

The owner of Drummondville's Studio Vélo, Félix-Antoine Huard, believes that this program will have positive effects for merchants like himself.

I'm pleased that the city has followed suit, as Sherbrooke did recently. It's sure to work and boost local business. With the arrival and wave of electric bikes, regular pedal bikes and standard bikes, we see it from a good angle," he maintains.

The City of Drummondville may readjust the amounts allocated to this subsidy program next year, in light of the popularity it generates among the population.
