Chad/Gounou-Gaya: the commune and the Vot wulla project raise awareness of local governance issues
The commune of Gounou-Gaya and the Vot wulla project coordination have raised awareness of local governance issues among opinion leaders and influential groups in the town of Gounou-Gaya.
For four days, associations of vulnerable people, women leaders, members of the women's training center and those of the Gounou-Gaya hygiene and sanitation committee network were made aware of the challenges of local governance.
"We discussed local governance so that they could understand the role of the population in a town's development process. For them, it's just a matter of elected people having to work. But they do have a role to play," explains Laaya Goundoul Ngolona, communications manager for the Vot vulla project.
Through forum theaters and focus groups, participants have learned the fundamentals of local governance.
"The forum theaters and focus groups were organized in the wake of the hope for development and citizen participation, which enables citizens and groups to take part in the decision-making process concerning the levers of action essential for advancing the policy of local governance. The message revolved around the three pillars of governance: accountability, transparency and citizen participation ", he explains.
