A seminar on green building development to promote green transition in the construction sector took place on September 28 in Ho Chi Minh City. It was part of the Vietnam Green Building Week 2023.

According to Vice Minister of Construction Nguyên Tuong Van, the development of energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly construction projects is a priority for many countries around the world.

In recent years, the Vietnamese Party, State and Government have adopted numerous guidelines, policies, legislation, programs and plans aimed at encouraging the efficient use of energy and resources, the protection of the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources.energy and resources, environmental protection and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in socio-economic activities, including construction.

Over the past 15 years, Vietnam has counted more than 300 green projects with a total floor area of around 7.2 million square meters. Although the number of green projects has risen sharply each year, it is still relatively modest compared with the total number of construction projects carried out each year. This calls for greater efforts to strongly accelerate the development of green building projects in the future, stressed Vice Minister Nguyên Tuong Van.

To promote their development in the private sector, especially foreign-owned enterprises, Sérgio Silva, an expert from the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCharm), felt that Vietnam could set specific roadmaps and targets to achieve carbon neutrality in green construction.

At the seminar, participating experts made recommendations for the development of green factories, green offices and green buildings, in order to improve the quality of living and working spaces in Vietnam.
