France/Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: Entrevaux wins "Most beautiful village in France" label
Meeting in Yvoire, Haute-Savoie on September 22 and 23, the jury of the "Plus beaux villages de France" quality and certification commission announced yesterday, Monday, that Entrevaux had joined the very select circle of this national network.
A veritable nugget for the eyes, the citadel on the banks of the Var river, like three other villages in the Alpes Provence Verdon Communauté de communes (Annot, Castellane, Colmars-les-Alpes), has already been awarded the Villages et Cités de Caractère label. Entrevaux's inclusion in the list of national heritage villages brings to 176 the number of remarkable villages with the honorary title of "Most Beautiful Village in France", a guarantee of quality for visitors. Entrevaux is the second village in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department to hold this label, after Moustiers-Sainte-Marie.
One label can hide another
This distinction, of which the people of Entrevaux are very proud, also enriches and qualifies the tourist destination offer of the whole Communauté de Communes Provence Alpes Provence territory, and reinforces in the best possible way the candidacy of an entire destination for another label, that of "Pays d'Art et d'Histoire".
The announcement was also made on Wednesday September 27. The Alpes Provence Verdon community of communes has just been awarded the "Pays d'Art et d'Histoire" label. "Today, the 41 communes that make up the intercommunality proudly display this label. It's an extra card to add to our tourism offering," says Gilles Gravier, head of communications at the intercommunal tourist office. " It's also a way of relieving congestion on the Verdon cayon and allowing visitors to discover other treasures of our region".
