Nigeria and Morocco sign a memorandum of understanding on decentralization

The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Morocco signed on Friday in Abuja a memorandum of understanding on decentralization.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on the sidelines of the second edition of the African Sub-sovereign Network of Governments (AFSNET) Conference by the Chairman of the Oriental Regional Council, Secretary General of the Association of Moroccan Regions (ARM), Abdennabi Biioui, and the Governor of Ekiti State, Chairman of the Forum of Nigerian Governors.Oriental Region, Secretary General of the Association of Regions of Morocco (ARM), Abdennabi Biioui, and by the Governor of Ekiti State, Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), John Olukayode Fayemi.

The memorandum of understanding aims to build the capacity of elected officials, exchange experiences in decentralization, communication and cooperation between the regions of the Kingdom of Morocco and the states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Organized by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in collaboration with the NGF, the second edition of the Network of African Sub-sovereign Governments Conference had as its theme: "African Sub-sovereign Governments Network, Promoting Africa's Development".

The event brought together executives and high-level representatives from states, provinces, regions and governorates of several African countries, as well as investors and financial institutions from across the continent.

The Kingdom of Morocco was represented at this event by a delegation composed of the President of the Council of the Region of Oriental, Abdennabi Biya.The Kingdom of Morocco was represented at this event by a delegation composed of the President of the Council of the Oriental Region, Abdennabi Biioui, the Vice-President of the Council of the Oriental Region, Alae-Eddine Barkaoui, and the Director of the Association of Regions of Morocco, Mohamed El Bachiri.

The Conference is an integral part of achieving the objectives set out under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

It aims to provide a platform that will promote the development of trade-enabling infrastructure, strengthen the role of export trading companies and encourage the exchange of information on trade and investment opportunities, financing instruments and initiatives between African countries.
