A complete facelift will be given to the pedestrian area in the center of Marche-en-Famenne in the coming days.

It must be said that the first developments date back to the late 1980s and that a facelift was needed. The first shovelfuls of earth will be given from August 18 with the installation of the optical fiber. The construction of the pedestrian walkway itself will begin on September 1.

It will include the streets of Savoyards, St-Laurent, Dentellières, Place du Roi Albert and the area behind the church. The project will involve renewing the pavement, installing new lighting, replacing street furniture and renovating the Grand Georges fountain.... The execution time is 60 working days, but this will depend on the weather conditions.

The alderman of Works, Nicolas Grégoire says that the project has been discussed with the merchants. " We met with them several times because it was important for us to involve them in the process, to assess their needs and to integrate their comments with the author of the project.

To limit inconvenience, it was decided to close the rue des Brasseurs to traffic and to allow the company to occupy some parking spaces in the place de la 7e Brigade. " The company must also guarantee access to businesses and homes within the renovation perimeter ," adds the alderman.

In order not to block the entire pedestrian area, the machines will first tackle Rue des Savoyards and Rue St-Laurent, and then progress towards Place du Roi Albert and Rue des Dentellières

Finally, with the closing of the rue des Brasseurs, the access to the place de la 7e Brigade will be done only by the rampart of the Jesuits.
