Cameroon - Reward: The Minister of Commerce begins the payment of the quality premium to 1067 cocoa producers of Mbam and Kim (Centre)
Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana offered amounts ranging from 11,000 CFA francs to 1.8 million CFA francs to producers who distinguished themselves in the sale of beans known as grade 1 during the 2017-2018 campaign.

The payment of the quality cocoa premium to producers for the 2017-2018 campaign is effective. The first stage of its delivery began on 23 March 2021 in Biakwa, a locality located in the department of Mbam and Kim, Centre region. The Minister of Commerce handed over amounts ranging from 11,000 FCFA to 1.8 million FCFA to the 1087 producers concerned for a total envelope of 216 million FCFA, carried by the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (ONCC).
This premium decided by the Head of State Paul Biya,rewards producers who take the trouble to produce good quality cocoa (grade 1 beans). In his speech in Biakwa, inform our colleagues of the Crtv, the Minister of Trade thanked the actors of the cocoa sector for their efforts over many years to maintain cocoa farming, despite the difficult economic situation.
Luc Magloire Mbarga Atanganareassured them that the government would not abandon those who maintain one of the main sources of foreign exchange of the country, which is cocoa. He also insisted on the quality which must integrate considerations related to the deforestation of forests, child labour, the integration of youth and women in the cocoa business.
Recall that during the 2017-2018 campaign, the Mbam and Kim, one of the main national cocoa production areas, has marketed more than 3000 tons of quality cocoa that has become a requirement of the international market. During the same campaign, the national production was estimated at 264,253 tonnes, an increase of 4.2% compared to the previous campaign.
