A contract was signed to this effect between the Japanese government and the Cameroon Judo Federation.

A gymnasium will soon be erected in the town of Soa, located in the Mefou-et-Afamba department and bordering Yaounde, the Cameroonian capital. The related agreement was signed on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 between the Japanese government, represented by Osawa Tsutomu, the Japanese ambassador to Cameroon, and the Cameroon Judo Federation represented by its president Alain Kingue. The cost of this infrastructure will amount to 51,550,000 CFA francs and falls within the framework of support for micro-projects to promote Japanese culture in Cameroon.

"The government of Japan has decided to finance this historic project to not only practice judo, but also to organize other international competitions," said in a report broadcast on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 20:30 of CRTV, the representative of Japanese diplomacy in Cameroon.

Equally happy, the president of the Cameroon Judo Federation welcomed this achievement. He then promised that it will be the starting point of a project for the development of judo: "It is a question for us to leave a mark. Our mark is already to have a place of practice for judo in Cameroon. This leads us to think that judo should have a national network. So, this is just the beginning of a long adventure," he told CRTV.

The Gymnasium of Soa will be built on an area of 750 m2 for a total cost of over 51 million CFA francs. As for its realization, it will extend over a period of 12 months from the date of signing the agreement mentioned above. For the record, this is not the first donation that the Japanese government has made to Cameroon. We recall that last January, the country of Shinzo Abe had decided to offer 1 billion CFA francs to help Cameroon to carry out its reconstruction project in the English-speaking regions of the Northwest and Southwest, plagued by a security crisis for over 4 years.
