Togo has again made an effort in international polls. For the second time in a row, the country responded positively to the expectations of the Americans regarding transparency in the management of public finances.

In its latest report, released in late June, the U.S. State Department ranks Togo as one of the best.

In the 2021 review, the department assessed the fiscal transparency of the Togolese government during the period from 1 to 31 December 2020.

On the website of the U.S. government we can read that Togo "meets the minimum requirements of fiscal transparency" thus being part of the 74 best out of 141 governments evaluated.

Indeed, this evaluation took into account "the accessibility of budgetary information, the legibility of procurement procedures etc...".

Since 2014, Togo has adopted a law on transparency in public finance management. Four years later, it adopted a citizen budget.

These different approaches have allowed the country to remain focused on the goal of "economic sustainability".

For fiscal year 2021, the U.S. Department of State and USAID plan to support projects that aim to improve the capacity of governments to develop and implement comprehensive, reliable, and transparent budgets, and also projects that aim to strengthen citizens' ability to advocate for state revenue programs.
